Custom Cross Data Manipulation
This is a two-part presentation — both parts are about journeys.
One journey is how I ended up here, as a developer working with FileMaker and an engineering student at 42U in Silicon Valley, and what insights and things I have learned along the way.
The other journey is how to solve a development problem — looking at three ways ( or maybe more! ) of doing cross tab UI and updates. As a group, I want to explore some of the benefits and pitfalls of each approach, and consider other possible solutions.
My Journey to 42U in Silicon Valley studying programming and engineering, and into the FileMaker community doing development— what’s similar, and what’s different… and what can be applied from learning at 42U, and what is uniquely different and cool about FileMaker.
- For the FileMaker devs in the audience who’ve never formally learned programming, what have been the benefits of learning this?
- For the people in the audience who aren’t that experienced yet with FileMaker, what are some thoughts, and tips and tricks to become a better developer?
In some recent work for a client, I worked on a Cross Tab UI — and ended up looking at 3 different ways that we could accomplish the desired result. As a group, I want to explore together what are the benefits and pitfalls with each approach.
