Frequently Asked Questions
Where will PauseOnError be held this year?
We will see you at the Kaplan Mitchell Retreat Center in Clayton, Georgia! In their words: "The Kaplan Mitchell Retreat Center at Ramah Darom is a first-class, full-service, breathtaking facility nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, just two hours north of Atlanta. Surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest, our 185-acre facility features a beautiful waterfall, serene lake, unique meeting spaces and many recreational and team-building activities."
What is the cost of a ticket and what does it include?
PauseOnError: Summer Camp tickets are $500 per person, plus lodging. This includes all PauseOnError sessions and activities, plus all meals starting Tuesday, October 5th for dinner through a boxed lunch on Friday, October 8th.
Please note that anyone staying on the property will require a ticket and minors are not allowed.
When you sign up for a ticket, please make sure to include any dietary restrictions. You're welcome to bring snacks, and after hours will be BYOB.
What lodging options are there?
Check-in is Tuesday, October 5th starting at 3:00 pm and check-out is Friday, October 8th at 11:00 am. There are three types of options on-site, and note that all pricing is by room or tent, not per person:
Tent Camping: There is plenty of space to pitch your personal tent on our beautiful campus. Spend your days under a shady tree and your nights under a starry sky. Enjoy the great outdoors knowing that a bathroom and shower are just a few steps away. Bathrooms and showers will be available for use in designated areas.
Cabins: All our cabins are heated with ceiling fans and feature a spacious, screened-in porch. Cabins are camp-style! There are cabins with a single private room and 4 bunk beds, as well as two private rooms and 8 bunk beds. It also has a bathroom with multiple stalls, showers, and sinks.
4 Bunkbeds and 1 private room: $255 ($85 a night)
8 Bunkbeds and 2 private rooms: $480 ($160 a night)
Standard Hotel Rooms: Most hotel rooms have two queen-size beds, with a few having a single king bed. All hotel rooms included standard hotel room amenities - heat, a/c, a table, chairs, bureau, closet, and private bathroom. Linens and towels are included. Please bring a hairdryer if required.
We recommend staying on-site, if lodging is available, as it gives you a chance to connect with other attendees. However, there are hotels available within 15-20 minutes of the venue.
Reservations can be made here.
What airports are closest to the venue?
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport: 129 miles
Asheville Regional Airport: 115 miles
Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport: 104 miles
If you'd like to coordinate transportation with fellow attendees, we suggest using Atlantic Limo.
What can I expect at PauseOnError?
We continue the PoE tradition of bringing awesome people together to learn from each other. Whatever your role in the FileMaker community, you bring expertise and knowledge that can help others. You also bring your own unique perspective. PauseOnError isn't about standing at a podium or lecturing others. It's a chance to engage, discuss, and share with friends.
This is a chance to experience work with a different backdrop. Step away from Zoom and your computer and enjoy the company of others while enjoying the fresh air. We think differently when we're outdoors – take advantage of the location and space to learn, explore, and connect with others.
What kind of sessions and activities will there be?
We want to take advantage of the space we'll have. We are planning three types of sessions:
Large session: We'd be remiss to not bring the whole group together. While this kind of gathering will be the least common, there are a few sessions that would benefit from the whole group.
Small session: With our smaller sessions, the goal is to discuss and interact with each other. These are more reminiscent of PauseOnError sessions in the past. A session will be led by a facilitator or two, but the conversation is a two-way street with the attendees. This is the chance to really dig into problems, solutions, and techniques. This is also a chance to connect with attendees and set up some time to walk and talk while at PauseOnError.
Even smaller session: When we started planning this event, we were walking the trails of Stone Mountain Park. It was refreshing to move and chat, get away from technology, and breathe in the fresh air. We want everyone to have that chance. Grab a few people and take a walk. Pick a topic and let people know where you'll be to chat about it. Find a spot in the foothills and ask for help on an issue you're having. This can be as informal as you want it to be! Want to plan in advance? We'll have Slack available for you to coordinate with other attendees.
Fun stuff: We get to enjoy the outdoors, on a property that includes sand volleyball, basketball, field hockey, tennis, soccer, and hiking. Members of the PauseOnError team would be offended (nay... heartbroken) if I didn't mention bonfires and s'mores. Late evenings and a crackling fire will surely be a memorable part of this PauseOnError. Also, bring your instruments so we can jam out after hours! More details to come on the fun stuff (and bring a swimsuit!) but it's top of mind for us. This is camp after all!
What if it rains?
The retreat center has us covered! We'll have a backup plan for all meeting spaces in case of rainy weather, but no harm in bringing a raincoat or umbrella!
What if I still have a ticket from PauseOnError: St. Louis?
